Seed Hardening – Inducing Drought Tolerance in Sorghum

Dry farming areas are often prone to failure of monsoon and its extreme manifestation is called drought. Meteorological drought is characterized by less precipitation, high potential evapotranspiration, high temperature and low humidity (during critical phases of the plant life) that affect the plant metabolism. Insufficient moisture to replenish the water loss from the soil is the main feature of drought. The plant reaches the stage of permanent wilting if drought persists, leading to crop failures.
